“Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!” After nearly 365 days of contemplation, meditation, reflection, procrastination, and other –tions, The Inkblot Blog is officially LIVE; and, tonight (11.23.11), I become a blogger! In more ways than one, these words are a celebratory achievement for me, so I am sincerely grateful that you are taking the time, energy, and space to “take a dive into the deep end of my head.”
Formality would dictate that I seize this opportunity to provide a brief explanation of what this blog space is all about and how I came up with its title and subtitle; but, I tend to believe that rules are meant to be ignored, yet it is imperative to learn them so that I know how to break them. That being said, this entire blog space (just as my last sentence) is left to interpretation-your interpretation, my interpretation. May we both consider ourselves officially empowered! :-)
Consequently, if the ambiguous Rorschach “Inkblot” Test is not familiar territory to you, I encourage you to educate yourself by researching Hermann Rorschach’s systematic contribution to psychological interpretation. [Please note that it is perfectly permissible to pause here, do your preliminary research, and return when you are more knowledgeable. This environment fosters the freedom of learning.]
Clarity having been established, let us consider the 2006 debut single from the debut Gnarls Barkley album St. Elsewhere.
If, by chance, you were not motivated (as I was) to purchase the jewel case compact disc version of St. Elsewhere, I’ve taken the liberty of providing the lyrics to Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy, as they appear in the liner notes.
I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind •There was something so pleasant about that place • Even your emotions have an echo in so much space • And when you’re out there without care • Yeah I was out of touch • But it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough • I just knew too much • Does that make me Crazy • Does that make me Crazy • Does that make me Crazy • Possibly • And I hope that you are having the time of your life • But think twice, that’s my only advice • Come on now • Who do you, who do you, who do you, • Who do you think you are, Ha ha ha bless your soul • You really think you’re in control • I think you’re Crazy • I think you’re Crazy • I think you’re Crazy • Just like me • My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on the limb • All I remember is thinking I want to be like them. • Ever since I was little, ever since I was little • It looked like fun • And it’s no coincidence I’ve come • And I can die when I’m done • But maybe I’m Crazy • Maybe you’re Crazy • Maybe we’re Crazy • Probably

So, what does this all mean? Inasmuch as the beauty of art yields room for individualized interpretation and truth, one need not be surprised that there is a myriad of varying ideas regarding the “meaning” of these lyrics and this video. In an effort to not disrespect our precious moments, I choose not to delve into what I affirm this song and video to mean. To borrow from one of my master teachers and author, James Allen, what follows “is not intended, as an exhaustive treatise on the much-written –upon subject…” I choose to fundamentally introduce myself to you by illustrating the impacting significance that Crazy has had on my development into a better understanding of the mystery that is –me!
My birth name is Daphne, and I remember when I lost my mind. The year? 2006. The most pleasant thing about that place was creating and experiencing my own genuine happiness for the very first time and recognizing what it means to be courageously authentic by choice. The wisdom of my mom always resonates in my soul (and can often be heard rolling past my own lips, into the ears and souls of others), “You’ve got to make your own happiness.” Since making a personal vow to myself concerning my happiness, I have been submerged in an endless state of carefree enlightenment; and, my world has come to be reshaped by a solitude that is regularly both desired and unexpected. For most, “unplugging” from The Matrix is often incomprehensible and even unnecessary. Thus, coming into knowledge of myself presented me the high honor of being acquainted with a brand new –me! and an unconventional wisdom that is exclusively reserved for seemingly outcast creatives and thinkers. Enter the Crazy!
Who among us is Crazy enough to enjoy the happiness of meekly knowing and passionately loving thyself-whatever that may be? I kind of hope that you are. It’s an unfathomable experience that can only be delved into by a pure respect for the amazing powers of thought and an uncanny ability to consciously distinguish between control and choice. In all of my infinite power, I recognize that I have absolutely no control. I am empowered to choose, but (as the African Ubuntu philosophy offers) “I am because [you] are.” So, does that mean you are Crazy just like me?
One truism throughout my experiences, I was destined to be this way. Just as I was in the earlier stages of my development, I am still moved by those that deliberately embrace their freedom by daring to dream and doing as Jason Mraz petitions his listeners: “Listen to [their] voice-the one that tells [them] to taste past the tip of [their] tongue. Leap, and the net will appear.” (PS: It’s highly probable that I will expound on this lyric in a later blog). Ever since I can remember, “different” has looked appealing to me; I have an insatiable appetite for diversity and an organic attraction to audaciously, yet respectably, “going against the grain.” It’s a part of my design. Something so ingrained in the fabric of my being couldn’t possibly be contrived.
My Crazy is purposeful. It’s the only way to explain many of my actions, decisions, and thoughts. It permits me to be. It also beckons me to wake up my dreams and constantly reminds me that of all the things I may think I know, the only thing I know I know is that I know nothing. Hence, “Maybe I’m Crazy. Maybe you’re Crazy. Maybe we’re Crazy. Probably.”
So, why not enjoy the liberty of the Crazy journey? I may as well. I have thus far; and, I relish in being completely open to the infinite possibilities of welcoming other Crazies to this blog space. Know that you have an open invitation to return, but be reminded that (just as with the inkblot) Whatcha See is Whatcha Get! Do you dare to explore?
My mission is to positively impact the world, in unconventional ways, through LOVE! As I often find myself in rapt and effortless contemplation, I tend to relate more to this expression of Crazy.
Enlove. :-)
Give thanks; Be blessed; Be healthy; Be safe; Be open; Be you; Be free; Keep learning; One love; Peace.
